PCB Level Testing
The Yelo system range provides in-circuit and functional test at board level. In-circuit is used to check that the board has been correctly manufactured i.e. components are of the correct value, have been placed the correct way round and soldered correctly. These tests are done with effectively no power applied to the board under test. Functional testing means powering up the board and ensuring that it functions correctly. This can be done in a series of blocks as an aid to diagnostics as well as testing the overall board operation. One major benefit of the Yelo system range is the tight combination of in-circuit and functional tests. This allows both types of testing to be combined without the need for large numbers of test and measurement cards in the test system. In addition, this gives flexibility of test strategies. You may wish to start now with 100% in-circuit and some minimal functional, but you have the reassurance of knowing that you can move to reduced in-circuit and increased functional if a dense surface mount board must be tested later. It is a fact that in-circuit testing needs access (by probes or special means such as boundary scan) to every electrical junction on the board and this is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. A Yelo system can be used with any type of fixture. Most models have dual vacuum ports but can also use mechanical and pneumatic fixtures. Extensive software tools are available for Yelo systems. These include the virtual automation of in-circuit programs from CAD data and the F-Point functional menu programming system. Most frequently needed changes can be made via easy to use menus, but programming may be performed using industry standard C or via F-Point. This generates and edits C programmes but removes the need to be a C programmer. These tools make Yelo systems quick to use while reducing the skill levels needed to set up for automatic test.
